JOY Freude
Coptic bound book 202518 x 12 inches, 3 signatures
Hand lettered in ink and acrylic on Hark Handmade Paper with polyester, Tyvek, gold foil.In these divisive days, I needed Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. The symphony is a glorious statement of what humans can create and how music can connect us. Schiller was never satisfied with his poem, Ode to Joy. But Beethoven read it, the chorus and soloists sing it. Beethoven was deaf when he composed the symphony and never heard it except in his mind. The last word sung by the chorus is Götterfunken, a funny word in English that means God’s spark; what we need now.
